Custer is an exceptional place.
Our space, our culture, and our work all reflect our belief that great spaces can empower people to do their best work. Custer proudly receives consistently high customer satisfaction ratings, and our fullservice approach is unmatched in competition. But beyond that, at the heart of who we are, Custer is a family of people who love what they do. Our team of employees work diligently together toward the common goal of providing the best for our customers. Being part of a company of integrity and longevity, we are proud to continue the legacy of Custer in the community. We are proud, and we are Custer.
Life at Custer
From the start, Custer has invested time and resources in our community’s most integral organizations. Kids Food Basket, Habitat for Humanity, American Heart Association, LaughFest, and Van Andel Institute are just some of the organizations Custer has supported. From wearing red to building houses to donating canned goods, employees do what we can to raise awareness and give back. And through event and program sponsorship, Custer demonstrates its commitment to community advancement.
We wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for our customers. We do our best to express our gratitude in big and small ways throughout the year, including treating them to our ArtPrize event and annual golf outing. We also make a great effort to thank the architecture and design community for their continued partnership through outings, events, and celebrations together—because we couldn’t do it without them.
Depending on the day, you might find us neck-and-neck in a costume contest, grilling hot dogs outside, or splitting a six pack from the next door neighbors. We throw a spring break in the office to rival the finest of resorts, involving elite activities from pickleball to piñatas. And thanks to the Fun Committee, employees get the chance to go to Griffins games, Brush Studio, the Great Escape Room, and more—for free! And last but not least, every summer Custer invites employees and their families to enjoy a Whitecaps game on the house deck together.
Health & Wellness
Custer is big on health and wellness. Don’t get us wrong—we keep the candy bowl filled to the brim—but we also have a wealth of options to keep our people happy and healthy. From monthly wellness workshops to a discount on local gym memberships, our Wellness Committee makes it easy to invest in your health. On top of that, our employees participate together in yoga, kickboxing, Crossfit, triathlon training, our in-house workout class, and more.
Custer encourages employees to maintain a healthy work life balance and is happy to offer flexible work schedules. When business allows, we follow a revised work schedule during the summer allowing employees to enjoy a longer weekend. Additionally we offer employees the opportunity to telecommute when needed.
We spend all day, every day designing and building exceptional environments for our customers, so you can imagine how excited we are about developing our own space! We’ve created an environment that works exactly how we need it to, supporting the physical, cognitive, and emotional health of our employees. From lounge areas to collaborative areas to private zones, we have a space to support any kind of work or worker.
We’re proud to offer a competitive compensation and benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, disability insurance, company-paid life insurance, flex spending account, 401(k) with a company match, discounted gym memberships. and an employee assistance program.
Custer’s commitment to celebrating and developing employees results in generous paid time off, profit sharing, and reinvesting back into individual career development. What’s more, every year we recognize two employees who have gone above and beyond the normal functions of their job by presenting them with the Custer Award of Excellence.
